ADSL is an “Always On” connection and is designed to give users permanent Internet access at a fraction of the cost of a leased line. To offset this cost, the Telecom providers quote a contention ratio of up to 20:1. This means that there could be up to 20 users or companies using the same link at any one time.

ADSL will give you download speeds of between 500K and 2000K and upload speeds of 256K. (The maximum ISDN2 speed is currently 128K or the maximum analog modem speed is 56K). ADSL will give you speeds of up to 25 times the speed of an ISDN 64K connection and in most cases, works out considerably cheaper than ISDN dial up access.

There are no restrictions with the number of internal users for the ADSL service. However, it is recommended that the maximum number of users for any one ADSL link does not exceed twenty.
